Global markets have recently been grappling with uncertainties stemming from heightened tensions in the Middle East and rising oil prices. Against this backdrop, South Korean stocks have shown resilience, with a significant boost from the semiconductor sector propelling the market upward.

On Monday, the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) surged by 113.49 points, marking a 1.65% increase to close at 7,007.72. This positive momentum extended the index’s winning streak to three consecutive sessions, showcasing robust investor confidence, particularly in companies associated with artificial intelligence and semiconductor technologies.

Leading the charge was Samsung Electronics, which saw its stock rise by an impressive 4.98% to 274,000 won. SK hynix, another major player in the semiconductor industry, experienced a modest increase of 0.59%, reaching 1.87 million won. Its parent company, SK Square, also enjoyed a strong performance, advancing 4.45% on the day.

While semiconductor stocks provided a buoyant lift to the market, other sectors displayed mixed results. Notably, Hyundai Motor’s shares dipped by 1.64%, and LG Energy Solution saw a decline of 3.3%, reflecting the broader market’s varied response to current economic pressures.

In currency markets, the Korean won strengthened against the US dollar, closing at 1,381 won per dollar, a rise of 4.5 won from the previous trading session. This appreciation underscores a growing confidence in the local currency amid a complex global economic landscape.
